Amol Prinn: Ends of the World
A specialized group within the Knights of K’hahn, the Inquisitors are recognizable for their ornamented crimson armor and their uncompromising approach to battle. The Inquisitors are the shock troops of the armies of Karonis on the battlefield, often operating independently of other units and seeking out opportunities to most heavily damage their opponents or to create openings for the main vanguard of the force. While they do not use magic themselves, many Inquisitors seem to have an uncanny ability to locate clerics, mages, and bards almost effortlessly. This unnerving ability is further augmented by the relative silence of the Inquisitors on the battlefield. The silence with which they approach the enemy, and with which they fight, is seen by most as a psychological tactic to unsettle their foes.
Off the battlefield, the Inquisitors are often the enforcers for the Knights, given the most dangerous and bloodthirsty missions. It is rumored that a squad of Inquisitors was responsible for the execution of the village of Tyr, north of Tarubaur, in 889 AS after the villagers had allowed the followers of the Cerulean Beam to erect a temple there. Everyone in the village, temple, and surrounding countryside was slaughtered and then crucified as an example to those who would support the followers of the Beam. At least two of the Seer-Emperors have been elevated from the ranks of the Inquisitors, with the possibility of others having been trained with the Inquisitors before serving in other capacities.
Little is known of the hierarchy of the Inquisitors, as they seem to function semi-autonomously from the rest of the Knights. they have been seen reporting to bishops and other upper-level clerics of the order, and are obviously devoted to the Seer-Emperor, but almost nothing is known of their military organization beyond these details.
